Lots of things
Oct. 8th, 2005 01:58 amSince tonight was not a going out night (A Very Good thing because four
nights in a row of clubbing would have killed me) I am in my room and I
will be having an early night, anything before two is an early night
for me. Also have time to try and begin a proper update, because I have
done so much, I really want to remember it, I just wish I had more
discipline in taking pictures because I always carry my camera and
forget to take any. Speaking of pictures, we had a photo challenge the
other day, we had teams and a list of things we needed to take pictures
of, which included things such as your team in drag, in underwear,
sexual positions in front of another college, a policeman's arse,
kissing an un/attractive member of the public and other even more
bizarre requests, there were ten teams and I am really looking forward
to the development of those photos, because it was so much fun. Insane
and embarassing (I am never going to St John's college again...) Taking
a picture of a big beard may sound not exciting, but when on our way
back we met someone with a huge beard and took a pic, hugging him and
everything and then when we went to meet our tutors met him once again
it was the most embarassing thing ever. I can't belive he didn't tell
us. Speaking of tutors I really like them all, it is amazing how
friendly they appear.
Today was busy in an academic way, rather than a fun way, but nonetheless it was fun too. There was a politics library introduction and a philosophy one. It is so great being right next door to both the exam school and the Philosophy faculty. Then there was the Altschul Dinner and it was very formal but also really enjoyable and free, it was preceeded with drinks with our tutors and I also sat next to some of them, thankfully I don't think I said anything too bad. It turns out my economics tutor doesn't like it when people have done an A level in it, and I thought I would have an advantage.
Scared now. Have a politics essay due in Thursday morning, maths questions for Tuesday and Logics exercises for Wednesday. Am quite excited at the prospect of doing all this, in fact spend quite a while in the social sciences library trying to find books. Politics tutorial is at 8:45 every Friday, so early! Haven't gone to breakfast even once so far, but aiming to do that tomorrow, need to go to Freshers Fair bright and early so I can sign up to a ridiculously high number of societies and then have tome to go to the ou3fs for one. We had Univ's Freshers Fair today and I signed up to Yoga, Dancesport, Badminton and Lacrosse (reasons unknown, doubt I'll go).
There was a pub crowl with College family yesterday and it was not bad, my parents are lovely, my siblings are not, but it balanced itself out. Then we went to Filth, which despite its name was cool, but I suspect that's largely due to the people. It was the best night, because I feel like I know more people and can talk to people. I do wish the conversations become more meaningful, but I have hope that with time they will. I talk to quite a few different groups of people, but all the PPEists are becoming quite close, a few of us especially.
This is the most disorganised and randon post and I have taken absolutely ages to write it and keep stopping and thinking of not posting it because it is stupid, but I think that I will.
I still have a million more things to say, however I don't have time. On a final note I cannot get over how very friendly and approachable everyone is, even the Master and his wife, the other day we had pizza and piano at the Master's lodgings and then there was the Master's speech on Iraq, the master being Lord Butler it was quite an experience. His speech at tonight's dinner was also great, very funny and my friend thought he was a bit like Dumbledore and then we squeed about Harry Potter and then 10 of us went to a room and had Ribena and chocolate balls and listened to Franz Ferdinand and then we were told to switch off the music, which was very quiet anyway by the Junior Dean by whom I'd sat at the dinner without realising. I can't imagine him telling people off, he is just so nice.
I do feel like I belong, this is a random and doesn't fit with my post but I am so confused it's ridiculous.
Bed now. Stuff tomorrow very exciting.
PS. Eeee Serentity, also my college wins as one of the organised events was a cinema trip to see it!
Oh and I have had Freshers flu since day one and my appologies to anyone that's had the misfortune of speaking on the phone to me, my voice is scary.
