Ah, an Acer. I've seen problems with those before, not only with the hardware but with the customer service. A previous IT Director that I worked for got himself a new Acer laptop a couple of years ago. It had problems (I can't remember the details), it eventually went back. Several weeks later it turned up again, it still had problems. A lot of shouting occurred on the 'phone. A new one turned up and they didn't collect the old one. He ended up with two laptops, one working and one not quite working.

My recommendation would be to ask for a refund from the people it was bought from. Then go and buy a different laptop. Three recommendations (from PC Pro). I've expanded on the one I think will be most likely. If you want more details on the others let me know. All information taken from PC Pro issue 145 Nov 2006.
