Why me?

I seem to have lost my debit card.

Last time I got money out was on Saturday, haven't used it since for anything, it is gone, hopefully lost and not stolen while I was in London because that would be even worse. I am in the possession of 85p.

What the hell do I do now? Apart from crying.

ETA I have just cancelled it, if I find it in half an hour or something I will die. It will take them 5 to 7 working days to send me a new one. They will send it to my parents' address and not here. So let's say two weeks. I need money *now*, as a student living away from home and with no cheque book I am screwed.

Call your bank and have them de-activate it immediately, and have them send a new one. Lost my credit card a few weeks ago. They actually overnighted a new one to me when I called.

Thank you, did so, hopefully will not find it now, however it will take them much longer to send me a new one and right now I am moneyless. :((

*hugs*

Have a good look around your room, bag, coat pocket, wallet, etc, and make absolutely sure it isn't there. If not, ring your bank asap and get it cancelled. The number should be on your statement. Have your bank details to hand. Alternately, grab your student ID or passport or other photo ID, and either your chequebook or latest statement, and get to the nearest branch and ask them in person.

They will cancel the card and send you another one. It will be alright.

I think I looked everywhere it could be, if it turns up I don't know what I will do.

I will get a new one, but I have no other way of getting to my money in the mean time.

Thank you.

Well, if the card turns up after you've cancelled it (and this happens a lot), then it's time to swear madly and cut the thing up when the new one does arrive.

In the mean time, your bank can probably do over the counter cash withdrawals, you'll just need to produce photo ID (passport, driver's licence or student card) and bank details (statement, chequebook) to do it. Get more cash out than you normally would, to tide you over.

I don't have any bank details here, will have to ask parents to mail a bank statement to me, but thank you so much for I am completely clueless!

Jenna’s right. It will be an absolute pain to walk with your passport in order to draw money out but if you turn up to the bank with 2 forms of ID and say that you’re waiting for your card to come through, they will pay cash over the counter.

Well I have my driving license, don't have my passport here though, was afraid I'd loose it...

Actually I went to get money out so that I can send them to you for a Gof ticket, I have called a friend who will do that for me now, but she will also get a ticket for herself, there are still spaces, right? (Ha, I suck, if I'd send you money earlier I'd find out it's missing earlier)

I do, I emailed it to her (sorry, should have asked first, but was in a panic), if she sends money today you will have to get it by tomorrow, I hope so anyway.

*butting in*

Mine is going in the post tomorrow, I swear!! How much was it again? *hides* It should get there on time though! Yes.

Also, Katia? It'll be okay honey! If you go to the bank and tell them what happened they should be really understanding. *hugs*

Call your bank ASAP, let them know what happened and have them shut it off. And hang in there--most banks have a protection policy for this sort of thing. You shouldn't lose any money and you'll get a new one in a few weeks. :D

Did so, they were really nice to me even though I didn't know any of my bank details, however a few weeks is so long and I will have to survive on borrowed money. :(

I probably do, until people told me I didn't know you are allowed to do that without your card, oh god I am so not ready to face the big and scary world.

Oh no! That sucks :(( I went through that last year, SUCKS. AS for having money in the meantime: if you have your account number and some ID e.g. passport you should be able to get cash out at a branch of your bank so you shouldn't be too screwed <3

Oddly enough, I too lost my debit card since saturday....last time I used it was saturday night at subway before the meetup/sleepover thing. I have since searched my whole entire room, bags, pockets, jackets, flat etc. in search and haven't found it, so I cancelled it today and requested a new one. I feel your pain, and send you a hug of understanding :o)

Wow, that is such a random coincidence, (at least I hope it's a coincidence and we haven't been robbed while we were cold and miserable on Leicester Square) but gah it's just so inconvenient. *hug back* Yay for mutual support. :DD

It better have been random coincidence!! hehe And you are right about the inconvenient part, having to go to the bank and wait in line blah blah blah is just so annoying, but hey, what can you do right? I took out a bit of money while I was cancelling my card, so that better last me for a bit till I feel like going into the bank again lol

Actually, (seeing as some people also lost their debit cards when we had a fandom meetup at our flat a few weeks ago), what's happened is me and [livejournal.com profile] baleheadbabe are a well organided cime duo and have a nice collection of fandomers debit cards hidden away. Thanks, fandom, you've been paying our rent recently!

No, seriously though, that sucks, hon :( what is with the rampant card loss? [livejournal.com profile] moony lost hers too! :( :( *hugs*

Hey Katia- don't know what bank you're at, but I know that with HSBC at least you can make withdrawals by cheque at the counter (ie not going to the cash machine) so your bank probably has the same facilities, worth a try anyway! xx

Oh, are you free tomorrow afternoon, would you like to come to a OLJM meet up?

This sucks muchly - I know how annoyng it can be to lose your debit card. I remember how irritated I was when I lost mine - and true, I had to wait a week or so before they managed to send me a new one.

Heh, I wouldn't be annoyed if I had some other way of getting to money, thankfully have spoken to parents who will be able to give me cash until I get my new card, as for the next few days I will just...not eat much... :D

Wah. :( Is there any chance your parents could send you some money temporarily via Western Union? It'll cost a bit, but it is very fast, and it sounds like you need the money to get through the week.

*Sends love and huggles*

Western Union? I have never heard of that, what is it? I have now managed to get hold of my parents and they will come and visit this weekend and give me money, yayness, as for the next few days I will hopefully be all right by borrowing some from friends. Crisis averted. *deep sigh*

Thank you! :D *hug* Terry Pratchett made it all better!!!
