Hello, I finally have internet access, and it is strange as I'm not used to it, so I don't crave it as much as I did. But it is nice to be able to check what's been going on and catch up on stuff and fics. Also doing homework could be advantegious at some point in the future, as during the weeks with no internet I was given research for all my subjects. I dropped Media, am left with only four and am sticking with them despite everyone saying that there is no point, and it's better to do three. So, you think what did I do with all that spare time when I have no internet, well you probably don't, but I'll tell you anyway, I don't do anything at all. Well, in fact I watch Big Brother, which is a bit pathetic, but I am seriously addicted. Also I decide what I want to do at Uni, and then I change my mind, and again and again. At the moment it's PPE (Politics, Philosophy and Economics), but yesterday it was English Lit. I hate making life altering important decisions, it takes me ages to decide what to wear every day.
Various unrelated things in no logical order:
- Football. I watched the English match and enjoyed it, this needs to be noted if only for the strangeness of this fact, I mean I don’t watch football. There is also of course the fact that we won.
- Assembly, freedom of speech, websites. Right, this will be a rant. So beware! We had an assembly yesterday in school, which consisted of the head teacher telling us how we have no right to publish lies about the schools and teachers, and basically have absolutely no rights to talk about the school, mentioning its name and that anyone doing so will be punished and even persecuted. This is all on behalf of some girl in the year above, who apparently in order to commit her revenge against the school and teachers by publishing lies in a website, and so the whole school was given an emergency assembly (or in fact 3, because we can’t all fit in the hall) and had the head teacher shouting at us, consequently I was told that the website consisted of ridiculous things such as one of the teachers having a torture chamber and more harmless nonsense. In short it was a joke, it had no intension to harm and “tarnish the reputation of the school and its teachers”. I mean come on, what the hell! I suppose it was rather stupid of the girl to get caught, but our head teacher said the host was contacted and “made aware of the issue” and consequently the site was put down, I don’t know much of these things, but from what I do know, I find it unlikely, for a host to really care about some harmless fun, I mean Mrs G, doesn’t really seem to know what the internet is or what is on it, she seemed to believe that if anyone else was thinking of doing that again, the host wouldn’t be fooled twice into allowing it. The way she said host, made me think, she’d only recently herd of the word. What the hell happened to freedom of speech? And she should be glad that people decided to post lies and not the truth, which isn’t pleasant. I am not saying my school is terrible or anything, but I can list a lot of things which would be the precise truth and nobody could fault me for it. And these wouldn’t include “This is the best school in all of England, with extremely qualified teachers which care for their students and do their best to help them achieve, they are so very helpful to new students and go out of their way to make them feel welcome” But that is complete bullshit, and I guess our esteemed head would want to sew me for telling lies or like she put it “publish” information about the school without her permission, which she isn’t going to give. But I wouldn’t if I was saying nice things, would I? It is ridiculous and it goes completely against our freedom of expression, come on a torture chamber, who would believe that? I know that this sort of anonymity that the internet allows as, is misleading as people can be recognised and punished for the silly things they write much easier than they think possible, and yet I just don’t like the meddling of supposed authority figures like teachers and employers. There are teachers here on lj, who write slash, and this is great, it is great that it allows a complete mix in terms of age, race, education and social background. And yet more and more journals are becoming friends only, due to the great fear of being discovered. It is people’s dirty little secret, their corner of private thoughts they want to keep from others, this is all understandable, it is a sort of escape that appeals. And yet it is so easy to find people you know, just the other week, I was looking for people living near me and found the quite abandoned journal of this boy in my year at school, I’ve never really spoken to, who didn’t seem to write anything scandalous that would have surprised me, but nevertheless the best part of my journal would not only surprise and shock, but very possibly horrify and disgust. I can say I don’t give a shit, but the very idea of my parents finding out about it is horrifying and yet, I almost never lock things, because I enjoy reading random comments, even if they are often weird and spammy, it is public, the very name tells you that and I like that, If I wanted complete privacy I would use password protected private journals. And I am not exactly sure how this turned into whatever it turned to, but I guess that reaction to a harmless site hit a bit close to home. Let’s just say my school is very traditional and in fact has banned all emails from the Internet. (Except gmail, which is too new, yay!)
- Gmail. That brings me to gmail, which I now have, you can find me at the rather imaginative kuteki@gmail.com which is big and hopefully will be able to fit numerous mailing lists and LJ comments. Other than the size, I’ve got to say I didn’t see he big deal, it’s rather overrated.
- What do I want to study? I was going to have another rant here, but this is getting too long anyway and I am leaning towards English, so will talk about this later.
- American Politics School is a bit shitty at the moment, I mean it just isn’t pleasant after going to tons of exams, coming back for a month to start immediately studying for even more exams, with a fun filled lessons learning what you need to know to pass. At least I dropped media, whee, only four subjects, a lot more frees and time to waste. But in politics we are starting American Politics and it is really interesting, especially with the nearing elections, we will study the constitution in the next couple of weeks. I will finally learn how the hell they elect presidential candidates, which is so not easy and confusing as shit. I do love politics, if it wasn’t pretty useless, would love to do a degree in it, although I am considering doing it with economics, which will cut down on the maths. But I said I won’t speak of that so will stop now.
- Am a prefect. From today, I am a prefect, which doesn’t really mean much apart from sounding cool, there are a few nice things about my school, it has houses and points and things. But I will mainly have to tell people to tuck their shirts in and other important instructions.
- Computer Viruses! (fuck them)

Date: 2004-07-03 04:39 pm (UTC)I know how you feel about all these subjects, but you know in the end it really doesn't matter. I can't understand your interest in phylosophy, but nobody asks me, so i'll shut up. I just hope you find what you really wanna study. Anyway the trio PPE sounds tough yet really good shaped as a whole, if you ask me. The three subjects are actually quite united.
And congrulations on the prefect thing. Is it like in Harry Potter? Sounds like a great responsibility and ...fun!
Ok, I'm babbling again, so I'll leave you. Hope you're OK, and see you!
P.S. Don't you have vacations?

Date: 2004-07-03 05:00 pm (UTC)Don't worry not babbling, I'd love to hear what you think, I just wish I knew what I wanted, or reach a decision and stick with it. But PPE does sound interesting, and as I am doing Politics and Economics now, I know how well they go together. The Philosophy is the one I haven't really done before, but it seems quite fascinating. I wonder why you don't like it?
Being a prefect is ok, you get free lunch if you are on duty, it is like Harry Potter, my badge is gold and red, I guess I'm a Gryffindor!
I have two weeks of school left, I can't wait, in 3 weeks I will be going to Bulgaria for most of the summer! It will be lovely, it is awful and cold here even now!

Date: 2004-07-03 05:47 pm (UTC)People usually think they don't know what they want butthe truth is this si not quite right! You'll be surprised how fast you could make the decision if you had to choose this instant, I can assure you of that! We just keep forgetting ,coz it's easier this way and because we are scared things might not turn teh way we want them.
If you had to choose this instant and say.. what do you wanna study and what do you wanna do in your life? Take it as teh last moment you have a chance to decide and listen what comes first!!
I'm so happy you're coming back in Bulgaria. Where will you go? To the sea? Or you're staying in Sofia? We might meet.
oH, and I don't like phylosophy, coz the educational system did its best to draw me away from it. I just couldn't find anything fascinating about it in school, though I know there are lots of interesting things about it! *kisses you*

Oh and the blank Gmail page? Your browser has to accept Active-X for Gmail, so look into your browser settings to fix it.

Date: 2004-07-03 06:00 pm (UTC)Don't worry this is a good enough reply :)
Your browser has to accept Active-X for Gmail so, look into your browser settings to fix it. I would if I had a clue what it is, also it worked before, oh if only I wasn't clueless when it came to all computer related stuff. When you are in a less drunk state explanations on what I need to do would be aptreciated. *g*
