Certainly you can! :) The poll was motivated by all the fics I've been reading referring to Arthur's looks as out of this world beautiful and always leaving poor Merlin feeling awkward and plain and I just wanted to see I am not alone in disagreeing.

I can see that what you're saying but somehow it feels more in character to me for Merlin to be mentally rhapsodising about Arthur's looks, rather than the other way round. I suppose that could just be the effect of the many fanfics you mention.

It's not that Merlin's not physically attractive, he is, but to me it seems as if Arthur's probably more interested in his loyalty, his friendship and his willingness to point out when Arthur's being a prat - after all, he's the Prince, if he just wants pretty there are probably a lot easier conquests.

Whereas it seems to me that Merlin is hero-worshipping Arthur, even though he's aware of his faults, and his looks are part of that, as well as his hidden depths. :-)

Maybe I'm just rationalising, but it all seems to make sense in my head.

Yeah I agree with you, of course it is more than just looks and Merlin is a lot more likely to be insecure about his while Arthur is only used to praise, so if it is Merlin's pov and canon compliant sure, but all the AUs I've been reading sort of have that too, and a part of me just goes, but Merlin is pretty and Arthur should appreciate that!

That is a good point - I suspect it's something that carries over from canon, and people don't even think about the fact that it doesn't work as well in an AU context.

Merlin is very pretty - you are not alone. And I look forward to reading your Big Bang story pointing out the fact. ;-)

Just been reading your comments above - the thing with me about Arthur is that he starts off as a mean priveleged brat, but through his interactions with Merlin, and the sheer force of Merlin's personality, and as Arthur encounters moral dilemmas and has to THINK, Arthur grows up through the show and you can see the potential for him to be this amazing leader - not just a pretty face and a good fighter, but a noble and responsible man. And Merlin obviously sees that, too.

And of course, Arthur is very, very handsome, which helps. :B I LOVE HIM akjdkdalkjsalkjdsalksaj.

Anyway. April meet up. :D Yes, I am planning to go, although I am expecting to have an upsurge of workload around this time, so whether I'll be able to come or not has yet to be seen. You should totally come!!! The meet ups can be a bit *too* loud for me, but then when things calm down a little, it's awesome.

Oh I agree completely and I ♥ Arthur too, this poll was just a super shallow experiment of sorts! :D

Yeah, I won't be exactly free in April either, but a fun fandomy afternoon could be awesome! I guess I felt I was not in fandom properly yet, but now having signed up for big bang and all that's no longer the case. And I miss meet ups, it's been over a year since I've been to anything!

Merlin is less conventionally pretty/handsome/beautiful/pick your word than Arthur, imho. Which works out well for me, since I tend to go for unconventionally attractive men with more, shall we say, more striking features instead (EARS ♥).

I'm just tempted to say that Arthur is polished cubic zirconia, whereas Merlin's a diamond in the rough, but I fear Tan may tackle me if I do! *hides*

Oh, I love his ears beyond all reason! Also I think I tend to go for dark hair, blue eyed people which might have something to do with this also.

Ahaha, I love that, though I think it might be a bit unfair to poor Arthur, there is definitely some gold inside the cubic zirconia! :)
