Arfdyfgjkl;' Anngry, so angry. Also sad :(((

I don't know if I mentioned that but I got a shiny new laptop for my birthday, I have had it for three days and now it is BROKEN. The backward slash button is constantly pressed which makes it impossible to use as it makes about a page in word by itself after a minute or two, the mouse touch pad doesn't always click it makes a really weird noise when I turn it on. All in all not huge faults but after three fucking days you would thin there wouldn't be any faults.

Have spend all morning on the phone, most of the time just waiting for someone to pick up, oh wonderful support people how much I hate all of you. pojoihvugcyfxdtzrsweays5d6tufgum'zjsd Just, god I am going to Oxford on Thursday I need a working laptop to be here before then, I want it to be replaced or returned or something and SOON and there is noone I can actually talk to who can help me. They all just give me a different number where they tell me they are either busy or open only during office hours, which is really fucking frustrating, asdhgcefihry.

My shiny new laptop is not so shiny anymore. :((((

In other news I got an email from one of my college sons this morning, yay he sounds really nice *is a proud mother*

Why do I only end up posting when I am angry or upset? Nevermind. Off to call them again.

What kind was it? I'll need to avoid it from now on.

Ah, an Acer. I've seen problems with those before, not only with the hardware but with the customer service. A previous IT Director that I worked for got himself a new Acer laptop a couple of years ago. It had problems (I can't remember the details), it eventually went back. Several weeks later it turned up again, it still had problems. A lot of shouting occurred on the 'phone. A new one turned up and they didn't collect the old one. He ended up with two laptops, one working and one not quite working.

My recommendation would be to ask for a refund from the people it was bought from. Then go and buy a different laptop. Three recommendations (from PC Pro). I've expanded on the one I think will be most likely. If you want more details on the others let me know. All information taken from PC Pro issue 145 Nov 2006.

Thanks for all this information, I already have experience with their brilliant customer service and am definitely demanding my money back as soon as I manage to actually speak to anyone. It's just that I don't have time for this.

Try trading standards; you should be able to find them in the 'phone book, or yellow pages.

Also talk to the credit card company, I assume it was paid for by credit card. They are jointly liable for any failure in the goods purchased.

If it was purchased either by mail order or over the internet then you have a period, I think seven days, in which to return it and get your money back, regardless of it's condition or whether it is faulty or not. Though if it isn't faulty you will have to pay the return postage and you won't get any money back for delivery to you.

Try writing to the Managing Director. Remind him that his company is in breach of the sale of goods act: the goods must be fit for the purpose, free from defects and something else which I can't remember off hand. This laptom clearly isn't "free from defects". It is the responsibility of the seller to provide either a replacement, a repair, or a full refund; the choice is the purchaser's.

*hugs* This is frustrating. I plan on getting a laptop soon as well, and paying attention to what exactly I'm getting wouldn't be a bad idea.

Hopefully you'll manage to have it repaired soon.

:( I hope so, it's like my 3 year old laptop which I am currently using is so much better whch isn't right.

Blah. I hope you get a new laptop soon.

What was it like working in the orphanages during the summer? Do you have any previous experience with kids? I was thinking of maybe doing something similar in '07.

[identity profile] kuteki.livejournal.com 2006-09-24 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too. :(

It was amazing, it was four of us and obviously only I spoke Bulgarian but that wasn't a problem and we just played with them, outdoor kinda games, with balls, inside we did a lot of colouring in and made masks and things, took them to the park, had a water baloon fight, played many musical games like pass the parcel and musical bumps, they adored music. I had never done anything like this before and did not expect the kids to be disabled and most of them were and still it was really fun, tiring and challenging. What kind of thing do you want to do. Also, you are at a University in Canada right now which means you must be able to join Facebook, dooo it!

I'm on Facebook already.

I dunno. I was looking around on Gapyear.com at some of the ideas - placements in Romania and Thailand and Nepal. Some of them are quite long term (4-6 months) but the shorter ones I can think about.

[identity profile] kuteki.livejournal.com 2006-09-24 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Add me then!

When will you have the time to do something like that? Go to Thailand or Nepal that would be awesome, though I suspect much more challenging than Bulgaria.

[identity profile] fadagaski.livejournal.com 2006-09-24 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I did already.

Well, summer break is all of 4 months long. That's plenty time enough.

[identity profile] kuteki.livejournal.com 2006-09-24 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! OMG your birthday is so soon! 20 is such a scary age, believe me I know.

Fair enough, you should definitely go for it if you thing you will like it.

[identity profile] fadagaski.livejournal.com 2006-09-25 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! I feel so old compared to everyone else here (apart from Nana, the Japanese exchange student, everyone is 17-18 Firsties).

Did you volunteer through a company or what? Details, man, details! Have been looking at i-to-i, but most of the placements require that I know Spanish and/or Brazilian. Blaaah.

[identity profile] kuteki.livejournal.com 2006-09-26 12:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I volunteered through OXAB which stands for Oxford Aid to the Balkans and is an organisation run by Oxford students for Oxford Students, all they do is liaise (or however you spell that) with the orphanages, it's good cos you don't pay them anything. So when looking for something try to do as much of the organisation yourself as possible, so where to stay and stuff cos it ends up so much more expensive if you pay an organisation to do it for you. Good Luck!

Awesome. Cheers!
